Back pain that feels like “hot needles”: Alberts's patient story
Video transcription of Albert’s patient story:
Hi, my name is Albert. I’m 68 years old and I have been working for most of my life. Finding my wife has been the biggest success at all in my life. I went into retirement for a few years ago. It was very hard at the beginning, but then I realize what a precious moment – do all of the things that I always wanted to do, take time for myself and especially take time to spend with my wife. But everything begins to develop nicely until one day: When all of a sudden this horrible pain in my back appeared. It started like a sun burn that won’t go away, it was like a metal filing under my skin or like hot needles working on my skin and provoking that shocking sensation. I went to the doctor – it was maybe too late, but they prescribed me some kind of inflammatory medication. However, none of them worked. I hate this situation. I cannot find anything that is free of pain and I wish that doctors will finally find out what’s wrong, what treatment could I take, so I could get on with my life, so I could get on with our plans for our retirement, get on with being happy together.
Life begins to look good again, I would say. It’s improving and it can only be better. We didn’t want to give up. We went back to the doctor because the pain was terrible. So I’m very happy that I was able to explain to my doctor all the feelings and everything related to my pain, so we could work together all the possibilities and all the options for a treatment. And now I feel so happy about it and so happy that I could be a positive help to my wife, in the house, in the garden and I could be doing everything that I always wanted to do. I’m very happy for that.
